ST Engineering, General Dynamics Team Up for CHS-4

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Alabama-based VT Miltope, a subsidiary of Singapore Technologies (ST) Engineering, will team with General Dynamics C4 Systems on the Common Hardware Systems-4 (CHS-4) program for the U.S. Army, according to an Oct. 11 press release issued by ST Engineering.

General Dynamics C4 Systems won a five-year, $3.7 billion contract on Sept. 12 for the CHS-4 program for the U.S. Army Contracting Command-Aberdeen Proving Ground.

"CHS-4 provides a 'no-fee-for-use' rapid procurement path for U.S. military and government organizations to receive radios, satellite communications and encryption equipment, computers and other products that are cost-competitive with the commercial market," a General Dynamics press release said.

Types of equipment available through the CHS-4 contract include rugged and semi-rugged computers and ultra-thin client products, computer peripherals, routers, and power subsystems.

VT Miltope has the potential to earn up to $250 million during the life span of this contract.

According to the ST Engineering press release, VT Miltope will provide three military rugged products that will meet V2 and V3 CHS-4 environmental and Electromagnetic Interferences (EMI) requirements.

"These products are the Enhanced/Rugged Handheld Terminal Unit, Rugged Portable Digital Assistant, and Notebook Computer Unit," the statement said.
