Thai AF Buys Lockheed Radar

By WENDELL MINNICK

Lockheed Martin has won a contract from the Royal Thai Air Force for the TPS-77 3-D long-range, solid-state air surveillance radar, which will complete a multiphase national air defense system for Thailand.

The TPS-77 is a transportable radar with a range of 250 nautical miles.

The radar will be installed and operational in 2009. This is Lockheed’s first direct commercial sale to the government of Thailand, said a Lockheed press release issued by Ellen Mitchell, director, communications and public affairs, Aug. 9.

“Our customer told us that this radar was chosen because of its successful track record worldwide,” said Greg Larioni, Lockheed’s vice president, ground-based surveillance and airborne radar. “In addition to past performance, they also appreciated the effort our team made to listen to their requirements and work to meet them.”
